Humpback Whale breaching lino print
Description
A breaching humpback whale lino print, purple oil based ink on 20 x 20cm Kozo select paper.
Every print is pulled by hand using a trusty wooden spoon. This method creates slight variations between prints making each of them completely unique.
The paper is hand torn and so the dimensions may vary slightly.
This print was inspired by my childhood in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Turks and Caicos are about 45 miles North West of the Silver Bank, an area of warm, shallow water where North Atlantic humpback whales migrate each winter to give birth or to breed. Many of the whales pass right by Grand Turk (the island I grew up on) and whale watching season was always my favourite time of year. I was very privileged to be able to witnesses their glorious aquabatic displays countless times and even to hear their haunting whale song whilst diving or snorkelling.
Now I live several thousand miles away on the west coast of Ireland, but there are plenty of humpbacks to be found in Irish waters too. Perhaps some of them even migrate to Turks and Caicos over winter. The two countries are after all separated only by the Atlantic.
