Caribbean Reef Squid, gyotaku inspired lino print
Description
This wreath of Caribbean reef squid was inspired by traditional Japanese gyotaku prints. Gyotaku were traditionally made by fisherman, whereby their catch of the day, often arranged artistically, was carefully coated with sumi ink before a print was pulled from the animal itself. The ink could then be washed off and the catch safely eaten. This art form is still practiced today, however, my homage to it involves only carved lino blocks not any real squid.
Printed with black ink on your choice of Kitakata select paper or Kitakata green paper. Each print is meticulously hand printed using the back of a wooden spoon. The hand printed nature of lino means that each piece is completely unique.
The paper is hand torn to produce a delightful deckled edge so the dimensions may vary slightly.
